Comprising majority of the graduates were 1106 students of the Regular program. 293 graduated from the other programs namely: Special Science Program (106), Special Program in the Arts (91), Special Program for Sports (70), and Open High School Program (26).

The guest speakers in the said programs, which were conducted in two batches: morning and afternoon, were BCNHS alumni Dr. Eric P. Flores of Makati Medical Center and Ms. Vilma C. Abad, Investments Promotion Officer of the Department of Trade and Industry, respectively.

In the Dry Category, Luis C’zar Asporia, a junior from the Main Campus, garnered first place by alluring the judges with his arrangement of bromeliads. Erika Marcelo from Doña Aurora Annex, with second place, and Willamar Tami-ing from the Main Campus, with third place, followed closely behind him.

Along with him, Zobel Epler, a 2nd year teacher also from the Main Campus, won first place in the Teacher’s Category. In second place came Mary Jane Cababat from Doña Aurora Annex and in third was Brenda Imperial, a 2nd year teacher of the Main Campus.

Meanwhile, in the Fresh Category, Jose Marcelo, a 1st year in the Main Campus, emerged victorious with the use of orange lilies. Also coming from the same campus, Estifany Oliveros, a fellow 1st year, won 2nd place. Elaine Laguitan, a senior also of the Main Campus, earned third place.

As for the teachers, Claire Herman from the Bakakeng Annex garnered first place. Petra Tumapang and Hilda Dawayen, both from the 2nd year Main Campus, won second and third place respectively.

Mrs. Saturnina Lumitap, the adviser of Ang Bag-iw, was awarded as the Outstanding School Paper Adviser (Secondary).

BCNHS’s Filipino school paper, Ang Bag-iw, prevailed among the other school papers as it garnered 1st place in Best Sports Page-Filipino (Secondary) while BCNHS’s Pine Tree was triumphant as they landed 1st on the Best News Page-English (Secondary).

Joan Agyod landed 3rd place in Editorial Writing- Filipino (Secondary) while Jhulyna Mae Rubio was 3rd in Editorial Cartooning- Filipino (Secondary).

Ang Bag-iw was awarded 2nd in Layout-Filipino (Secondary) while Pine Tree landed 3rd place in Layout-English (Secondary).

The winners of the Individual Contests will proceed to National School’s Press Conference to be held in Ormoc, Leyte this coming April 7-12 2013.

Joshua Bullago, Jedida Cabanlong, and Roandrei Mariñas, students of the Science and Technology Oriented High School (STOHS), emerged as the champion in the Oregon-Oxford Debate Competition. Interestingly, they actually ended up debating with their own cohorts, Benedict Guinto, Mirzi Candelario, and Brian Colcol, who won 1st runner-up.

Meanwhile, Ed Mañalac, Daffny Fangonil, and Reavy Fumbuena, who are also students of the STOHS, garnered 2nd runner-up in the 6th ISKOlar’s Cup, held last January 26.

The UP Bannuar, an officially recognized socio-civic organization of Ilocano students in UP Diliman, in partnership with UP Debate Society and UP Baguio Debate Varsity, hosted the tournament for the purpose of creating a venue where students could showcase their talents, skills, and intellect while being instilled with the value of social awareness and participation.

The Kizuna program is a two week program funded by the Japanese Government, Japan International Cooperation Center and American Field Science, where students from 18 different countries gathered together to be ambassadors of peace. This program aims to promote global understanding of Japan’s revival efforts in response to the Great East Japan Earthquake last March 11, 2011. Here, the students were given host families which they treated as their family while they were in Japan, and through them, the participants learned the cultures and traditions of Japan.

There were 28 students from the Philippines who were given the opportunity to go to Japan. A total of 675 students that included other countries participated in the said program. The 675 students were grouped into different subgroups from which they were given the chance to do volunteer work in the country. The students were also given the opportunity to go to a host school, where they experienced how the Japanese students learn and study. In their last days in the country, they were given the opportunity to bond and relax with their host families.

Chelsea got home last December 14, 2012. She brought home joy, experience, knowledge and friendship from this once in a lifetime experience.

Baguio City National High School earned a spot in the forum after being selected as a Microsoft Pathfinder School through “…a rigorous application process that focuses on educational leadership and learning vision as well as the roles of students, educators, curriculum, and technology in the school’s community (pil-network.com).”

“The forum gathered 500 participants, including the most innovative global educators, school leaders, education leaders, and government officials, from 115 countries around the world(pil-network.com).” The forum featured the school track which involved workshops and training conducted by renowned education innovators and a teacher track which involved a contest of the most innovative lessons.

Dr. Donaal led the Philippine delegation that included Warren Ambat, the ICT Coordinator of BCNHS and Shateen Seraña, a teacher from Tuan Datu Hadji Abdulla Nuño Memorial High School in the Zamboanga City Division, who represented the Philippines in the Innovative Teacher Contest.

The month-long celebrations aimed to actively involve the students in the activities lined up for the festival and celebration in order to further hone their English language skills, expose them to varied English language tasks that develop their talents and communication skills, and help them internalize the importance of reading and develop in themselves the love for reading. Through the request of Mr. Edward Tipton, an alumnus of the Baguio City National High School, with the Philippine Postal Corporation for the issuance of a commemorative stamp in celebration of the 100th founding anniversary of the BCNHS in 2016, the NHCP represented by Mr. Ludovico D. Badoy, Executive Director certified the official foundation of the high school in 1916.

The official document stipulated that in 1916, three major events which marked the beginning of the school includes the establishment of a first year of the secondary course or high school level; the additional normal course and the putting up of Trinidad Agricultural School in La Trinidad as its extension school. I was then stated that the secondary or high school level and normal curriculum of the school, therefore, officially started in 1916, marking 1916 as the foundation of the school.

It could be recalled in the history of the school that in the same year, it subsequently became known as the Mountain province High School which offered a normal course. In 1924, the Baguio City government started to fund and maintain the school causing its transfer to the government center and being named as Baguio City High School then Baguio City National High School through Proclamation No. 401 in 1953.

“We are so glad to have finally traced the Founding Year of our school and we are very excited to celebrate its Centennial Anniversary come 2016 which makes this year as its 96th,” said BCNHS Principal Elma Donaal.

“This was also made possible through the joint effort of the Araling Panlipunan teachers, under Head Teacher Evelyn Tadeo, who researched for possible contributory information,” Donaal added.
